Open Up To New Experiences

Posted by

New experiences can be intimidating. When something is new, you more than likely have no expectations built up for it. If you keep a positive mindset (check out my previous post on how to eliminate negative thoughts), then this can be very exciting. New experiences are the breeding grounds for new ideas and thoughts. There are a lot of unique ideas out there, as well as a lot of generic ideas. It is interesting listening to other people from different backgrounds. They can come up with points of views on pressing matters that you would have never even considered before.

New experiences are essential for developing your character. Doing the same thing over and over doesn’t change anything. Just try something different. Maybe try a new diet plan, learn a new skill, or move to a new city. When you expose yourself to a new situation, you become vulnerable to new mistakes. Shit happens. There is no avoiding it. No one in this world gets off easy, and you are no exception. Those mistakes have to happen in order for you to learn, and learn you will. You will be smarter for it, and another step closer to being the person you want to be.

Even though mistakes are bound to be made, rewards are just as likely to be around the corner. It may take time or it may be instant, but you must have faith that it will happen. Keep that positive mindset. At times everything may seem lost, and you may be thinking about quitting. Know that you will make it through as long as you keep moving forward. You will figure something out. It is not the end.

Overall, new experiences are the building blocks of a person’s character. You can see this in someone who is old-fashioned. Some, like my father, refuse to get a smart phone or laptop or anything technology related. It is nothing to be ashamed about, but it does hold people like that back from learning how to use these instruments to their full potential. In other words, they aren’t opening up to new experiences; therefore, they aren’t making any mistakes to learn from. In turn, they then aren’t building their character.

There are many different ways to dive into a new experience. You do not have to go out with random people either, you can just read a book you normally wouldn’t read or watch a movie you’ve never watched. As long as you have not done it before, then it is new. Be creative with it. Know that everyone is on their own journey, and they are going through their own problems. Don’t mess with other people and treat others the way you want to be treated. When you do that, there is no wrong answer.

What are you waiting for? Try something new today! Do it while you’re thinking about it and it won’t take long to make it a habit.

Share the love, Saint.
