The first step to nirvana is loving yourself. It can be difficult to love yourself. Even people who say everything is going great, still have insecurities. It’s hard not to. You are hanging around yourself 24/7, 365 days a year, every year. How can you not notice the subtle imperfections. Maybe some imperfections are not as subtle as others, but one thing is for sure. You are the way you are for a reason. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t change anything, but you should at least embody the idea that you didn’t do anything wrong. You had no choice to look and be the way you are, so love yourself. No one else will want to if you don’t love yourself. Forget about all your flaws. Your flaws do not define you unless you let them.
You start growing when you really start to love yourself. Once you love who you are now, then you will have full control over who you will turn out to be.
Don’t just stop there. Expand your circle of loving kindness. Eventually, you will learn to everyone, but it is okay to start small. After you learn to love yourself, then learn to love a good friend. This shouldn’t be hard. Love amongst friends is more common than people think. Any simple acts of caring, such as holding a door open, helping with a task, or even just saying how do you do, are acts of love. I believe people wouldn’t do anything unless they loved what they were doing.
We are all friends. Some are good friends, some are difficult friends, and then some are just neutral friends. The next friend to love is a neutral friend. Someone who you don’t really consider a close friend, but also someone you don’t have a hard time getting along with. After that, learn to love a difficult friend. A lot of people like to refer to these kinds of friends as enemies, and they perceive them as threats. Although some people may have rough exteriors and sketchy motives, they are still people. Befriend them and maybe they may not seem so bad. You will only find out if you try.
“[People] bleed just like us. Picture me being scared of a [person] that breathes the same air as me” – The Notorious B.I.G.
The Notorious B.I.G. had a way with words, and this quote hits the nail on the head. Why should you be scared of anyone? We are all human. We are all equal, but everybody puts up a front. An ego. It is easy to break through if you let love guide you. Love is the answer. It’s that simple. Stop making things difficult.
